Visa processing time
Applicants are advised to plan their travel and visa application well in advance and start the visa application as early as possible.
A Schengen Visa can be applied for up to three months before the start of the intended trip. You are advised to file your application at least three weeks prior to your departure. The minimum time required to process short-term Schengen Visa applications of Sri Lankan and Maldivian passport holders is four working days (Saturdays and Sundays and holidays not included). Please note that passports of several other nationalities have a minimum processing time of twelve (12) working days. However, certain cases may require additional processing which could result in a delay of up to several weeks. Waiting and processing times for Schengen Visas will also be considerably longer in the summer months due to much higher demand for visas.
Processing times for long term visas are generally about three months, whereas family reunion visa which involve a document check of Sri Lankan documents usually take approximately seven months, in some cases even longer.
