Micro Project Visit in Vavuniya
Enlarge image In the month of June Ambassador Rohde visited several Micro Projects in the northern half of the country that were funded by the German Embassy in the year 2016. One of the projects, which was implemented by the Voluntary Organization for Vulnerable Community Development (VOVCOD), was called “Improving drinking water facilities in selected resettled villages in Vavuniya”. With the funds from the Embassy nine new wells were constructed in the remote villages. The new wells did not only cater to the need of drinking water but also provided the necessary water to allow the villagers to start farming activities. This in turn created an income generating opportunity from which160 displaced persons benefited. During the visit several villagers had the opportunity to show the Ambassador their new home gardens, where a variety of crops could be found, contributing to a safer livelihood.
