Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Young Academics and Scientists
The research grants programme gives priority to the initial and continuing training of young university teachers. Applicants must have been released from duties by their home university for the duration of their project
Research grants to run for up to six months are primarily intended for young academics who are enrolled in a doctoral programme in their home country.
Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates within the "Sandwich Model" are also available

Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists
The research stays programme aim to provide foreign academics and scientists working in higher education or at research institutes with an opportunity to carry out a research project at a state (public) or state-recognized higher education institution or non-university research institute in Germany.
Research stays Allows candidates to carry out a research or study project at a German university or non-university research institute and run for 1 to 3 months.
Application deadline: 1 October
Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders
To maintain contact with Germany, former DAAD Research Grant or Study Scholarship holders with funding for more than six months and former DDR (East German) Scholarship holders who studied in Germany for at least one year can apply for a re-invitation. Funding is available for research and working projects at a state or state-recognised (public) university or a non-university research.
Depending on the applicant's work schedule, the research stay can last between one and three months.

Postgraduate Degree Courses with Relevance to Developing Countries
Study scholarships are awarded to provide foreign graduates from developing or threshold countries of all disciplines with opportunities to complete a postgraduate or Master's degree course at a state (public) or state-recognized German higher education institution and to gain a degree in Germany (Master's/Diplom). Exceptions for doctoral studies in order to gain a university degree (PhD) in Germany are possible.

Master Scholarships Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG)
This programme is designed to further qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life.

Conflict Studies and Management Programme (CSMP)
The Conflict Studies and Management Programme (CSMP) is a study and research programme at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt carried out jointly with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The CSMP addresses both Master’s and Doctoral students with an interest and a proven track record in research and practise in the field of conflict management.

University Summer Course Grants for Foreign Students and Graduates, Literary Competition
Grants for Bachelor and Master students whose main or minor field of studies is German Studies.
Duration: 3 or 4 weeks lasting course in Germany.

Scholarships for Artists and Architects
A. Study Scholarships
These study scholarships aim to provide foreign applicants from the field of Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, Architecture as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) with an opportunity to complete a course of extension studies, without gaining a formal degree or qualification, or to complete a postgraduate or Master’s degree course to gain a degree in Germany (Master’s/Diplom), at a German state (public) or state-recognised higher education institution.
Depending on the length of the chosen degree course or study project, the study scholarship will be awarded for between 10 and 24 months. Initially, scholarships are awarded for one academic year and can be extended for students with good study achievements to cover the full length of the chosen degree course.

B. Study Visits for Academics

The study visits for academics programme aims to enable lecturers from the fields of Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, Architecture as well as Performing Arts (Drama, Direction, Dance, Choreography, etc.) to apply for a supported study visit for the purpose of artistic cooperation with a German host institution.
Depending on the applicant's work schedule, the study visit will last between one and three months.
Application deadline: 1 October
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds Study Visits and Study Seminars and Practicals in the Federal Republic of Germany by groups of foreign students under the direction of university teachers
Group Visits (i.e. Study Visits and Study Seminars and Practicals) should last no less that 7 days. Funding is available for a maximum of 12 days (including travel days), although the stays may last longer
Application deadline:
- 1 February for trips to begin at the 01.06. (DAAD decision made at the midst of April)
- 1 May for trips to begin at the 01.09. (DAAD decision made at the midst of July)
- 1 November for trips to begin at the 01.03. (DAAD decision made at the midst of January)
The programme “Subject-related Partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education in Developing Countries” provides an opportunity for German institutions of higher education to collaborate with one or several higher education institutions in developing countries.
The deadline for applications within this call for proposals is the 30 June 2011, the earliest funding will be January 2012.
