Germany mourns the death of former Federal President Roman Herzog

Roman Herzog, who served as President of Germany from 1994 to 1999, died at the age of 82. He was the first President of Germany to be elected to office after the reunification of Germany. Prior to his election to the presidency of Germany, he was the President of the Constitutional Court from 1987 to his election as President of Germany. A book of condolence will be open for signing at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany located at 40, Alfred House Avenue in Colombo 3 on Thursday, 12th January and on Friday, 13th  January, from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.

Germany's G20 presidency

Germany will be holding the presidency of the G20 in 2017. The summit of the heads of state and government and representatives of international organisations will be held in Hamburg on 7 and 8 July 2017. A number of G20 ministers’ conferences are scheduled to take place prior to this. The G20 Foreign Ministers will meet in Bonn on 16 and 17 February 2017. The summit and ministers’ meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss current international challenges and to raise awareness of new issues in international affairs.
